Challenges That HR Leaders Are Facing During 2022
Brownie Wise, the pioneer American saleswoman who invented the Party Plan marketing system behind Tupperware home products company’s success is famously quoted as “If you want to build the business build the people”. Building people means building the most valuable asset in the business. HR is recognized for having the will to not just make people come to work but to do the job and feel like they are making a difference and being recognized for their contribution. However with the pandemic and the economic crisis, the world is facing, the job of HR is becoming more difficult than ever. Putting aside the health crisis, they need to take care about layoffs, mental health crises, burnouts, new technology adoption, and social unrest that result from the crisis.
Almost all of the HR functions have been altered by the event of the pandemic. Recruiting staff, education, training, compensation, talent retention, employees’ health, and well-being, and employees relations have changed. While putting tremendous efforts on diversity, equity, and inclusion creating an environment rich in diversity, HR will need to prioritize remote work.
The transition to the digital workplace that has been accelerated by the pandemic is not temporary. Remote work will continue after everything returns to normal. Companies will either remain online or will employ a hybrid model. In all cases, managing and improving remote workplaces will remain among HR’s priorities.
To maintain the remote workplace and benefit from the convenience and flexibility it offers to employers and employees, HR’s mission will be to develop new skills based on skill gap analysis to identify what new abilities employees need to adopt and what trainings need to be provided.
Ever since the pandemic hit the world, there has been a shortage of talent that has made the mission of HR more difficult in filling vacant roles. It is important to know that employees turnover rate has been increasing during the past decade. The pandemic made the situation worse due to uncertainty but also due to the lack of HR skills in recognizing employee’s efforts who are feeling undervalued even though they are working long hours from home. One way to do that is by constantly recognizing top performers for staying engaged and frequently sitting down with the team to reevaluate benefit packages and comparing salaries to other companies in the market. Another way to close the gap of vacant roles is to enhance the way you attract talent by increasing the number of online job offerings and conducting more interviews.
