Google pushes smart glasses forward with Glass Enterprise Edition 2
It seems a new chapter is opening for Google Glass trying to reshape the future of the workplace with the use of augmented reality. Project Lead Jay Kothari recently announced that Glass Enterprise Edition 2 is now available for developers. It is meant to help people in enterprises who work in logistics, manufacturing field services as well as a variety of other industries. Glass Edition 2 enables workers to increase their efficiency through hands-free access to information, data, and tools necessary to operate their jobs.
The new generation has a better processor, a better camera, and a USB-C port along with other new features. The overall design consisting of the signature translucent prism through which you view and control the heads-up display is still the same. It can be affixed on the right or the left arm of eyeglasses allowing the worker to easily adapt it to prescription or protective eyeglasses.
Glass is built on Android which makes it easy for developers and businesses to work with and integrate their existing services and APIs (application programming interfaces). Google also shared a number of open source applications and code samples for layouts and UI components to help new developers find their way in developing for Glass. It still is an enterprise product and it is not designed for everyday consumer jobs, but with the use of proper tools and applications, it becomes an indispensable heads-up display for enterprises who have jobs in construction, Healthcare, and assembly lines. Glass’s price is still the same, it can be purchased directly from Google’s hardware resellers, and you no longer have to go through a solution provider to buy them.
